Art and Culture

Assisi stretches out on the slopes of Monte Subasio, above the plain where the Topino and Chiascio rivers flow.
Assisi’s oldest nucleus, protected by a defensive apparatus made up of eight fortified entrance portals and a long belt of town walls, still perfectly preserved, is topped by two castles on the peak of the mountain: the Major Castle, reconstructed by Cardinal Albornoz in 1367, and the Minor Castle.
Apart from religious buildings of outstanding importance, which go beyond being solely the heritage of Assisi—such as the Basilica of St. Francis—the tourist can also visit the Church of St. Clare and the Church of St. Peter.
Main city of the Umbria region, Perugia is placed on the top of a hill and dominates the Valley of the Tiber.
With its Etruscan walls and a gorgeous medieval center, Perugia is not only a city for the gluttonous (especially chocolate lovers), but also for artists and art lovers alike.
Visitors should be sure to see Piazza Matteotti, with its 15th-century Palazzo dell’Università Vecchia and the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo. Then, one of Italy’s most important squares, Piazza IV Novembre, stands as the city’s monumental social hub.
On this central piazza sits the Palazzo dei Priori, symbol of governmental power; the Cathedral, expression of religious power; and, at its nucleus, the Maggiore Fountain, completed in the 1200s and fed by the aqueduct originating from Monte Pacciano.
Nature

Ever-changing, untouched landscapes, immersed in the green of winding valleys, make Umbria a region that never fails to amaze.
This region is mainly composed of hills, mountains, hollows and plains and extends along the central basin of the Tiber. Located at the heart of the Italian boot, it is the only region with no coastline.
It includes Lake Trasimeno, central Italy’s largest lake.
The area still preserves the remains of Etruscan settlements, particularly around Castiglione del Lago, where the beauty of the natural landscape blends with the romanticism and stillness of the lake.
Moving on from the two lakes, we come to the Cascate delle Marmore near Terni, considered among the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe.
Here the waters plunge into the River Nera with a spectacular 165-metre (541-foot) drop, surrounded by lush vegetation.
This is a paradise for sports lovers, ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and many other outdoor activities.

In the woods of Monte Subasio, among oaks, ash trees, cherry trees, holm oaks and hornbeams, it is still possible to encounter wild animals roaming free, such as deer, wild boars, porcupines, hares and pheasants, which in our area still find a welcoming and natural habitat.
Franciscan Itinerary
The Franciscan itinerary, winding between Assisi and Gubbio, recalls the path followed by St. Francis of Assisi during his preaching mission.
To be traveled only on foot or on horseback, it offers the opportunity to strengthen both body and spirit, crossing landscapes and villages of great beauty, rich in artistic and spiritual heritage.
